There are major differences between Life, Disability, and Long-Term Care underwriting:
- Life is concerned with mortality (how medical conditions will affect life expectancy).
- Disability Income is concerned with morbidity (the frequency and duration of disability due to medical conditions).
- Long-Term Care is concerned with how medical conditions will affect current functional and cognitive ability, and an individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living.
We have developed several guides to help you and your clients better navigate the underwriting process:

For Your Client – What You Need to Know About:
Medical Exams
A GPAgency case manager can order a paramed exam for your client; an examiner will contact your client within 48 hours. Please Note, the producer will be billed if the paramedical requirements ordered are not for the correct carrier, not per age and amount requirements, or do not result in a formal application to the carrier. Also note, in some cases, a medical exam may be required. This exam must be conducted at an approved physician’s office.
If you prefer to order the paramed yourself, indicate in your cover letter to us that an exam has been ordered and provide the vendor’s name and phone number.
